There are a bunch of bay area foosers going to the Bart O’Hearn Celebration Foosball Tournament in Austin this year. We’re going to throw a warm-up event at Cuetopia from October 23-25, it should be great fun! This is a bit like the HOFC warm-up we threw earlier this year, with some schedule tweaks so they’ll be fewer conflicts.

Hey. Hey! California Billiards in Fremont is open! Phil is going to be running DYPs in Fremont every two weeks. This is a great location!

In addition to the regularly scheduled DYPs, we’re going to be running some special events over the next few months. The full schedule is on the Bayfoos calendar, plus we’ve got a handy printable cheat sheet.

Saturday, September 19th: Triple Shot, Cuetopia. We’ll do a beginner event starting at 4 PM, something at 6 PM, and a Shake-n-Bake or BYP at 8 PM. Let us know what you want to see for the 6 PM event.

Saturday, October 10th: DYP, The Broken Rack in Emeryville.

Friday through Sunday, October 23rd-25th: Bart O’Hearn Celebration Warm-Up, Cuetopia. There are a lot of Bay Area players going to Austin for Bart O this year, this will be a fantastic warm-up tournament.

Saturday, December 5th: Triple Shot, Cuetopia. Beginner event at 4 PM, other events start at 6 PM and 8 PM. The 8 PM event will be a Shake-n-Bake or BYP.

Saturday, January 19th: DYP, The Broken Rack in Emeryville.

The DYP schedule will be:

1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesdays: California Billiards.  First DYP is September 22. Then we start the 1st/3rd/5th schedule: October 6th, October 20th, etc…  Sign-ups close 8 PM.Tournament Director: Phil Schlaefer. The new address is 40510 Albrae Street, Fremont.

Saturdays: Cuetopia, San Jose. Next event is September 12th. Tournament Director: Steve Corioso or Dana Marr.

Thursdays: Kennedy’s, San Francisco. Sign-ups close 8 PM. Tournament Director: Wes Hunt.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the tournaments, and feel free to send suggestions. We run these events for the players, so if you want something new let us know.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in July. We’ve got the regular schedule of DYPs, one more Triple Shot (beginners, singles, SnB), and then SuperDoubles!

Our next Triple Shot is July 18th: we’ll do a beginner’s tournament, open singles, and a shake-n-bake. Please post the beginner flyers near tables, as well as the full event schedule.

Tuesday’s and Thursday’s are the normal DYPs at Cuetopia in San Jose and Kennedy’s in SF. Tournaments start at 8 PM.

SuperDoubles kicks off Friday, July 31st and runs all weekend. This will be the biggest west coast event of the year, with players flying in from all over the country. Don’t miss it, and don’t forget that unranked beginners get a big discount on entry fees.

We threw a fantastic triple shot tournament on Saturday.

The real story here is about the new beginner players: ten new people! We welcomed them to the game with Dana Marr and Steve Corioso teaching the fundamentals of defense and ball control. Thanks to Dana and Steve for taking time to teach, and to all the new players for coming out to play!

This was a team effort, there is no way we could have done this without a lot of people reaching out to friends and coworkers to plan, promote, and run the event. When we first scheduled a beginner tournament, we had no idea if anyone would play. We had a fantastic turn-out, and we’re going to keep it up.

Amy Wong-Thai, Ben Kempner, Brian Eaton, Dana Marr, Dave Blank, Gemma Mio, Matt Doughty, Marcos Ramirez, and Steve Corioso came up with the initial plan to bring more beginners into the game.

Gemma and Peter helped design the flyers.

Matt and Kyle helped run the tournament (no small feat when you’ve got this many events and teams!) Thank you both for stepping up.

A small army of people helped to promote the event by posting flyers and contacting people who might be interested. Thanks to Albert Cheng, Bharath Hariharan, Dave Blank, Ginger Wong, Jacob Plachta, Jenny Ong,  Mohammed Uddin, Naveen Veeravalli, Phil Schlaefer, Samantha Tan, Steve Damron, Tomasz Odrobny, Tony Jackson, Wes Hunt, and Xavier Contreras for helping to get the word out.

Fourteen people played in the beginner tournament. Wes and Andrey took first. Praveen and David (new players!) took second, and third place went to Naveen and Barath.

We had a whopping 16 people play singles. Congrats to Adrian (1st), James (2nd), Ellen (3rd) and Steve (4th), and many thanks to Kyle and Matt for making sure the tournament ran smoothly with so many players!

Nine teams played in the Shake-n-Bake. We almost finished up on time, but Adrian and Steve faced off against Serge and Dana for a 75 minute, two set final match. Serge and Dana defended their king seat position successfully, but it was close: the last game of the last match went 5-4. Adrian and Steve took 2nd, and Matt and James took 3rd.

We had great turn-out for the Nor Cal Hall of Fame Classic Warm-Up.  Thanks to everyone who came out to play, and to everyone who helped out with set-up, tear-down and running the brackets!
