    Saturday Double Header

    The Saturday Double Header on Jan 24 should be a blast, it’ll be our first weekend tournament in over a month. Expect lots of players and tough competition.

    Tables open at 1 pm.
    Open Singles at 2 pm.
    Shake-n-Bake (aka Open Doubles) at 6 pm ($50 added to the overall pot, plus $50 added for top draw team)

    More than 13 players: double elimination tournament.
    13 or fewer: Swiss System for seeding, single elimination play-offs.

    Shake-n-Bake

    Bring a partner if you’ve got one, draw one if you don’t. $50 added for top draw team, plus $50 added to the overall pot.

    More than 13 teams: double elimination tournament.
    13 or fewer: Swiss System for seeding, single elimination play-offs.

    Format may be either Swiss System or Double Elimination. Bring teams will play to 6 against draw teams.
    100% payout, plus $50 for top draw team.

  • Points Race (almost) Half Way Point

    Our fall points race is looking competitive. We’ve finished four out of nine events, and leaders are starting to emerge.

    Brian is in the lead, with 49 points, but Xavier is close with 45. Both Brian and Xavier are showing up every week to play, so this is probably going to stay close.

    Vera has a solid lead in our Intermediate category with 32 points, but Jim played well this weekend and got closer. He’s got 24 now, and could close the gap.

    And our New Player category is full of great new talent! Babu and Maddy are tied with 21, Imtiaz right behind with 19, and Rishie has 17.

    Still lots of time for anyone to catch up, looking forward to seeing everyone coming out over the next few weeks!

  • Points Race Rules and Prizes!

    As we announced last week, we’ll be running a points race from Tuesday September 9th through Tuesday October 21st. There will be 9 events total, seven Monster Draws on Tuesday nights, plus Singles and Doubles on Saturday September 21st. Players get points for each event they enter, and bonus points for stronger finishes.

    All players can compete in each event, but we’ve got three prize categories for players of different levels.

    Advanced: $150 in cash, plus an engraved Bayfoos medal. All players can compete here. If you’ve gone deep in Expert and Pro events, this is the category for you.

    Intermediate: $100 in cash, plus an engraved Bayfoos medal. This category is for players who are of Amateur and below skill levels.

    New players: Engraved Bayfoos medal. This category is only open to players who have begun playing in the past year or two and have not competed much at a national level.

    You can always win a prize above your ranking, and because we’re using the MarioKart-style point system it’s pretty likely that we’ll have New players competing for the Intermediate prize, and Intermediate players are definitely going to be a threat in the Advanced category.

    What does MarioKart-style mean? Nothing about red shells, unfortunately. You’ll get points based on your overall finish in each tournament, with 1st place and 2nd place getting bonus points. Larger turnouts also means more points.

    The finish points formula will be Number of Teams – Team Finish + 1. For example, if there are 12 teams and you place 5th, you’ll receive 8 finish points (just like in Mario Kart). First place will receive 3 bonus points. Second place will receive 1 bonus point. More examples:

    1st place in an 8 person event: finish points = (8 – 1 + 1) = 8, bonus points = 3, total = 11 points.

    2nd place in an 8 person event: finish points = (8 – 2 + 1) = 7, bonus points = 1, total = 8 points.

    3rd place in an 8 person event: finish points = (8 – 3 + 1) = 6, bonus points = 0, total = 6 points.

    4th place in an 8 person event: finish points = (8 – 4+ 1) = 5, bonus points = 0, total = 5 points.

    …

    8th place in an 8 person event: finish points = (8 – 8 + 1) = 1, bonus points = 0, total = 1 point.

    For Monster Draws and Singles events, we’ll be using the Number of Players as the base instead of the Number of Teams. (For example, 1st place in a 16 player monster draw would 16+3 = 19 points total.)

    We don’t expect many ties at the end of 12 events, but if they do happen the tied players will split the cash prize, and play one match to see who gets the medal. Players cannot win more than one prize.

    Player categories will be announced at our Monster Draw on Tuesday, September 9th.

  • Fall Points Race!

    We’ve got a solid schedule lined up for September and October! The WFT Tornado World Championships was an incredible production, with talent from all over the world competing at the highest levels. We’re going to try to keep the momentum going with our local events.

    Special news: we’re going to run a MarioKart style points race, with hundreds of dollars in prizes. Eight events in five weeks. Each time a player participates, they earn points based on their finish, with the top 4 players in each event getting bonus points. Detailed rules will come later. For now, here’s the schedule:

    Tuesday, September 16th: Monster Draw, Singles Playoffs

    Saturday, September 20th: Saturday Double Header, Singles and Doubles (FB event, Google Calendar event)

    Tuesday, October 7th: Monster Draw, Singles Playoffs

    Tuesday, October 14th: Monster Draw, Play Through

    Tuesday, October 21st: Monster Draw, Doubles Playoffs

    October 21st will be the last event of the points race. Awards will be given out on Saturday, October 25th, at our October double header.
